This Lemon and Herb Tastic Basmati Rice recipe is a delightful way to elevate your meal with vibrant flavors and fragrant herbs. Tender Tastic basmati rice infused with zesty lemon and aromatic herbs creates a side dish that perfectly complements a variety of main courses and cooks perfectly every time.
Ingredients

Yield: 3 portions (60 g per person)

  • 180 g Tastic Basmati rice, rinsed
  • 15 ml Coconut oil
  • 2 g Salt
  • 2 g Lemon zest, fresh
  • 5ml Dried basil
  • 5 ml Dried organum
  • 1 sachet Benny Chicken stock
  • 500 ml Water

After Cooking:

  • 5 ml Trulem Lemon juice

Method
  1. Rinse the Tastic basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch for fluffier rice.
  2. In a saucepan or pot, heat the coconut oil over medium heat.
  3. Add the rinsed basmati rice to the pot and toast it for a couple of minutes, stirring occasionally, until fragrant.
  4. Stir in the salt, lemon zest, dried basil, and dried oregano, ensuring the herbs are evenly distributed.
  5. Combine the water and Benny stock powder sachet.  Pour in the Benny stock into the pot. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
  6. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a lid, and simmer for about 15 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed. Avoid stirring the rice while it cooks to prevent it from becoming sticky.
  7. Once the rice is cooked, remove the pot from the heat and let it sit for 1-2 minutes.
  8. After the resting period, uncover the pot and fluff the rice gently with a fork.
  9. Pour the Trulem over the cooked rice and gently toss to incorporate the lemon juice.
  10. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, adding more salt or lemon juice according to your preference.
  11. Serve the Lemon and Herb Basmati Rice as a delicious side dish alongside your favourite main courses.
